By Plane
The best intercontinental flight connections are from/to the Italian airport of ⇒Milan-Malpensa and the Swiss airport of ⇒Zurich.
The Italian airports ⇒Milan-Linate and ⇒Bergamo-Orio al Serio offer reasonable airfares from Europe.
You may also want to check out the ⇒airport of Lugano, which is situated south of the Alps between Zurich and Milan. Note however that flights into Lugano airport might be a little on the expensive side.
Airport Transfers
⇒Milan-Malpensa is served daily by Shuttle Buses to Lugano. Reservations are recommended. Detailed information on timetable and ticket prices may be found on the web sites of the bus companies: ⇒Star Bus and ⇒Giosy Tours SA.
Star bus has translations on it website, but to make a reservation click on “Prenotazione Bus Malpensa” in the upper left corner. For Giosy who run Malpensa Express you may wish to use the Italian ⇒email contact form to ask about a reservation.
From Zurich airport there are ⇒hourly trains which travel through spectacular countryside. Please visit the ⇒Zurich aiport railway info page or the ⇒official SBB/CFF/FFS website for more details and timetable/route information.

By Train
The ⇒SBB/CFF/FFS, the Swiss railroad network, is extremely widespread and permits one to reach every inhabited centre of the country.
The Lugano city centre is easy to reach on foot (10 min.) or with convenient public means of transportation.

By Car
Lugano is served by the motorway axis that directly connects Northern Europe to the Mediterranean.
Coming from Milan, take the Laghi A9 motorway in the direction of Como-San Gottardo or the A8 motorway in the direction of Varese-Stabio (Gaggiolo). Advised exit: Lugano Sud.
Coming from Zurich take the A2 motorway in the direction of San Gottardo-Chiasso-Italy. Advised exit: Lugano Nord.
Please remember that to drive on Swiss motorways it is necessary to be equipped with the motorway sticker that is to be applied onto the car windshield (the cost: 40.- SFR – valid from Jan.-Dec.) it may be purchased at Customs.
