Exploring new pathways
This workshop will practically explore Alexanders' explanation for changing habits as described in Marjory Barlow’s 1995 memorial lecture. He would say that if you live in a forest and you always go from point A to point B you will gradually wear away a little pathway in the grass. One day you think there is a better way and you start going round differently. In time you have two pathways and then you decide that the new way is the better way and gradually the grass will grow over the old path. It is a useful way of describing the process of change needed for ourselves and our pupils. There is a limited number in this workshop to allow for a quiet and safe place to explore individually, and with others some familiar pathways and experiment with unfamiliar alternative ones, both in ourselves and in our teaching.
