Jane Brucker

Kinesthetic Drawing

This workshop will teach participants to use their kinesthetic awareness to learn to draw. Through lecture, demonstration and drawing exercises, participants will learn to make the visual observations necessary to develop perceptually accurate drawings and to exchange habitual thinking for clear seeing. Instruction in developing hand-eye coordination, using appropriate materials, and recording an understanding of weight, tension, balance and space in a drawing will be given. The workshop will conclude with guidelines for further practice.

Jane Brucker received a BA degree in studio arts from San Diego State University, an MFA from Claremont Graduate University, and an MA in religion and the arts from the Claremont School of Theology. She attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, where she studied with Agnes Martin. Currently she is training at ATI-Los Angeles.
A painter, sculptor, video and installation artist, Brucker examines memory, fragility, beauty, and death in work that is unified by her interest in spiritual issues. She constructs both large-scale and intimate pieces from found objects and family heirlooms.

Her artwork has been exhibited at venues throughout the United States, as well as internationally in Nepal, Italy, and Germany. As a professor in the Department of Art and Art History at Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles, she supervises the drawing program.
