Kay Hogan
Orginal Movement
This workshop will look at the origins of movement starting in utero. We will look at some of the birthing reflexes, primitive reflexes, postural reflexes and life long reflexes. The birthing and primative reflex movements are crucial for brain developement and the developement of the senses: hearing, seeing, feeling, touch etc. I will teach several of the reflex movements explaining when they appear, when they should integrate, what postural or life long reflex should appear after it integrates and also, what sense is connected to the developement of that reflex (visual, touch, hearing etc.) and the consequences when that reflex doesn't integrate or reappears. Most of the reflexes I will demonstrate coorespond to The Dart Procedures (sometimes used in conjunction with the Alexander Technique). The students will be welcome to practice each movment demonstrated. I will expain how each movement can then be taken into standing and related to the Alexander Technique. I will show a short DVD of the developing infant moving reflexively in utero practicing movments that it will not be able to repeat again until many weeks after it is born.
