Tension and fear: an instinctive relationship?
Which is the relationship between fear and tension? When in danger do we block and stiffen our body? Is it natural, instinctive? Is it learned? Does that happen to animals in nature?
Through several games we will explore this interesting relationship and will see how fear affects the automatic body response, and will try, trough inhibition, a new way to face fear. We’ll try to train our brain and body in front of difficulties, so that, at least, tension doesn’t negatively affect our use. A very funny experience to help new teachers to apply new games in introductory Alexander Technique groups.
Xavier Ortiz was born in 1960. At the age of 23 he became a professional actor and clown. By that time he became very hoarse and almost lost his voice. After spending 2 years of voice work, his teacher told him: Or your body changes or your voice won’t change… So he started to go to yoga, massage sessions, Rolfing and… Alexander Technique. He was so seduced by it that he went to London to train as a Teacher. He graduated in 1996 and since then he is combining his teaching practice with his acting work.
