Avi Granit

Direction & movement – their distinction and harmonious integration

The presentation will show how the timing of a movement sequence creates a preliminary mental picture & clarity of thought for both the pupil and the teacher. I will explain and clarify the issues of direction, movement & sequence. I will then demonstrate how this is incorporated within my AT teaching and within my daily life.

Avi Granit runs his own Alexander Technique (AT) teacher training school in Tel Aviv, Israel. He studied the AT with Patrick Macdonald in London and, after graduating, continued working with Mr Macdonald for an extra year to deepen his knowledge and understanding of the technique.

Avi returned to Israel in 1984 and has been teaching the AT full time to both children and adults, in Haifa and Tel Aviv since then. Avi was a senior teacher trainer for 15 years at the Haifa School for AT run by Rika Cohen until its closing in 1999. For 11 years, as part of his military service, Avi also instructed Israeli air force pilots in the technique.

In addition to his teaching, Avi lectures and gives post-graduate workshops in the technique all over Israel. He presented workshops at the Freiburg AT Congress ("On the five principles") and at the more recent Oxford Congress ("The three ups").

Avi regularly travels to the UK where he presents workshops and gives lessons to both students and teachers in London, Henley-on-Thames, Oxford and the Lake District.
