Continuous Learning

The Constructive Teaching Centre represents a unique and continuous
connection to our professional heritage, wholeheartedly supporting the concept of continuous learning which is at the heart of this International Congress of the F.M. Alexander Technique.

When F.M. Alexander died in 1955, his assistant teachers, including Walter
Carrington, had already taken responsibility for the continuation of the
Teacher Training Course at Ashley Place.

Thus training continued seamlessly and without interruption, finally relocating to Lansdowne Road in West London where Walter Carrington incorporated The Constructive Teaching Centre in 1960.

Walter Carrington continued running the Teacher Training Course at Lansdowne Road until his death in 2005, since which time, his assistant Teachers have continued to run the training course in very much the same seamless manner and in the same spirit as Walter Carrington after Alexander’s demise.

All the presenters qualified at the Constructive Teaching Centre; Ruth Murray in 1980, Alan Philps in 1985, Beryl Tollady in 1986. Since qualifying they all have continued to work as assistant teachers on the Teacher Training Course, initially with Walter and Dilys Carrington latterly with Ruth Murray who assumed the role of Head of Training in August, 2005. They also run their private practices from the Constructive Teaching Centre. The Teacher Training Course at the Constructive Teaching Centre is recognized by ATI and STAT.
